on assignment: Lafayette Brothers

Drove on up to their company Geddes Refrigeration LTD on spanish town road. the assignment was the usual grab some images during the interview. get some gesticulation and expressions and then wrap it up with a portrait of the twins. For the portrait I used a lil desk area in the office we used for the interview then after we were finished. I asked if it was okay to do a shot in the hall. Both came out really great so i guess its up in the air as which image will get used for the feature. I personally prefer the one in the office though, oddly enough the office space one felt more relaxed than the hall way portrait. read the article on em...

on assignment: Stacy Ann Grayson

travelled to the jamalco sports complex which is kinda like heading to clarendon but not… but its still far.. for this assignment I had an assistant thank god cuz I defnitely needed someone to hold the lightstand otherwise my last umbrella would have been destroyed. left kingston about 7 arrived at the jamalco sports complex at 8:30 AM Hungry as hell because I left home so early I had no breakfast :(.. anyway. The subject was Stacy Ann Grayson who is a female referee for what level of football I sadly cannot recall but you can read her story here At 8:30am in the morning you can imagine that thesunlight wasn’t so friendly and it was a football field so there wasn’t much shade either.. eventually we found a tree that provided enough shade to get some shots done. The background i got from trying to shoot in the shade with the sun behind me wasn’t working so it forced me to get low and shoot against the sky which worked out really well. Strobist: Flash high above camera left at 1/2 power about 3 feet away. ISO 200 f/6.3 s...

on assignment: Chain Reaction fashion accessories photo shoot

Today, I decided, I’m taking 2 light stands 2 speed lights a beauty dish and a brolly, wont get caught without that modifier this time around if i got em all right. The assignment was a jewellery Fashion accessories photo shoot at Chain Reaction [ their stuff is pretty awesome, i’ll be visiting next week to go shopping ]. The model model was actually one of the co-owners daughters. She did pretty well. mostly I worked with a two light setup using the dish and the umbrella as modifiers. for my favorite shot though which i just came up with on a whim (did it more for me than for them to tell the truth), i used one light on the subject modified with the shoot through umbrella at 1/4 power at camera right and the second speedlight bare powered down to 16th power and used it to throw some light at an orange wall behind the subject for some separation color...

Portrait Session – In Studio

A few weeks ago I was commissioned to do a small portrait session. What was cool about this was the client knew exactly what she wanted which meant all i had to focus on was Light, exposure and the rest was history. This time I threw the backdrop stands up and used a 6ft roll of studio white backdrop paper. Lighting Sb 28dx as Key-light shot through translucent umbrella Camera Left above subject about 3 – 4 feet away at about 1/4 flash power sb 400 as fill, shot into a reflective umbrella Camera right on subject height about 3.5 maybe 4 feet away at about 1/8th flash power The session took about 30 minutes give or take  5 minutes. Client was happy with her images and all’s well that ends well . My next entry should have something to do with Caribbean Fashion Week...

Monday Night, One light, Damn Right.

Hey everybody The post is kinda late however on the night of march the 2nd 2009 which so happens to be a monday, I had a portrait session in my not so new anymore makeshift studio. My model was a beautiful young lady by the name of Nickel, Whom I enjoyed working with so much. She understood the aim of the session. “Me Trying to Suck Less than I usually do”./ I wont reveal the amount of frames that I shot or how long it took me to get keepers. But I did get it eventually. Working with one light with a shoot through umbrella as my ownly modifier was kinda tricky at first but eventually I started to get a few things going. Here are two images from the session. Difficulties faced during that session were I suck lack of space Lacking Artistic Direction – expressions, poses I over came number one if even by just a single digit percentage value. The space Nothing can be done about that at the moment. and the artistic direction I’m still weak on it, but I’ll continue to shoot till I over come it. I should be shooting her in a few days time. I’ll try my best to plan more and hopefully my next strobe will be here by...
