Winter Concept Beauty Shoot

It’s always a pleasure working with such creative and talented individuals that I can also call friends. On Sunday, December 14, 2014, the team took Hope Gardens by storm, with their creativity, teamwork and willingness to try new places and things. I want to say thank you to my models, Terri-Karelle Reid and Davina Laylor who are always troopers and aren’t afraid to be painted silver or thrown in size o jeans. (More of a task than you know when your not a size 0.) To my creative director, Garfene Grandison, whose insight and creativity never ceases to amaze me! He’s always coming up with new ideas and angles to make the final images a work of art. To Jheanelle Walker, a diamond in the rough who prefers to remain hidden, as her work speaks. Her blending and application made for a flawless ice princess. To Mario Smith, who controlled the lighting in both the rain and tunnels we ventured for the days’ shots. The man is a statue! Thank you to Raymond Simpson, who was second lighting assistant and videographer; Khanique McDaniel, third lighting assistant and shoot manager.   A huge shout out also to Monique Simpson and Andre Haynes for the BTS help. I love it when the team grows! It was definitely a team effort and I am nothing without my team and friends. Thank you guys for another stellar shoot! More Food for the Foodies

Photographing food seems to be something I’m instinctively good at now. I’ve learnt how to assess the light and determine weather I wanna use natural light or throw artificial light at it as key light and balance with ambient or just  completely ignore the ambient and be the god of the set “let there be light where i want it how i want it when want it”. This food feature was on a restaurant that I personally loooove. Di Grill Shack Originally located in sovereign centre food court. However this feature was on their new location at CPJ market along lady musgrave road. The new location lends it self to a dining experience something that wasn’t available at their initial offering at sovereign centre. The menu has grown as well to reflect the new ambiance more “mature dishes” that would take more time to eat more time to savour and enjoy so to speak. Pasta’s, Steak, Pork chops to name a few of the new items. Lets feast our eyes shall we :). First we have the Pork Chops. One large light source Camera left ambient light pretty much ignored at 1/250th, f/4, iso 200 at 50mm focal length on the nikon 24-120 mounted on a d800 Steak!!! Who doesn’t love steak with a side of mashed potatoes 😀 makes me hungry just looking at the image. For this one the lighting setup is pretty much the same but the exposure was changed drastically. the exposure was 1/5oth at f/4.5, ISO 200. I wanted to bleed in as much light as I could without over exposure issues.   Pasta!!!!   Pull Pork Burger and Fries!!   The last two images pretty much followed the same exposure settings as the second low shutter speed to bleed in ambient light. The images were Features on todays food sections front page above the fold. I think it was very well ladyed out.. it definitely makes one hungry!   Until next...

Synchronised Swimming by the Island Aquatics Syncho Club

Swimming has become sort of a big deal locally thanks to Olympian Alia Atkinson who is the poster girl for water sports locally after her performance at the last olympics. Now despite placing 4th, it was still a huge deal to Jamaica and support for swimming which was next to non existent is finally being given from various local organisations. At a recent function held to announce Alia Atkinson as a brand ambassador for Grace Kennedy Money Services, I had the pleasure of photographing synchronised swimming. It was very entertaining and led me to wonder will Jamaica ever have international representation in that sport, especially in light of recent attention being given to swimming. Enjoy the images from the performance by the Island Aquatics Synchro Club...

Sports Photographer’s Log Jamaica vs Honduras World Cup Qualifier

I photographed Jamaica’s final world cup qualifier football match recently, Jamaica vs Honduras. Though at that point qualifying was not an option for Jamaica anymore. That still didn’t mean that Jamaica wouldn’t go without a fight right? Thats what I what I thought for the entirety of 1 minute and approximately 40 seconds. That’s probably how long it took for the first honduran goal to be scored talk about crestfallen… a bad start. Moments later it was the Jamaican’s who were cheering as an equalizer was delivered putting both teams at 1 goal each. No on to something else that I figured out that really annoyed me. I’m also sure annoyed my co-worker and other sports shooters more than it did me. We’ve had to wire images back to the office for stories for the next day from the stadium on many occasions using the digicel data dongle. The digicel data dongle never works at the stadium and yesterday I finally got the reason why. I asked this guy that was there that worked for digicel to assist with the dongle. his response was use the wifi. What WiFI?? To my surprise digicel offered wireless internet for these events at the stadium for some time now, always there, always available and insanely fast!! The rage quickly filled up thinking about past experiences when working on the wire and being unable to transmit images to ftp for getty -___-. *bane voice: the rage rises* Also the data dongle doesn’t work because of the lowered level of the inside of the stadium. its actually below ground level which causes reception issues. I photographed the football match with the D800 as my main camera. The fps isn’t as high as I would like but you get used to it eventually.  In dx crop mode I think I got a little bump in fps or maybe it was mentally. I was all the way at iso 4000 on the d800 which is still pretty clean for what the images will be used for. I also had the d300s sporting the tokina 11-16mm for some images of the teams exiting the lockers and heading to the field as well as some post match photos of the hondurans celebrating their victory and confirming their status as qualified for the 2014 world cup. The Jamaica vs Honduras Match was a draw in the end at @ Goals each team but ultimately that was a win for Honduras as they advanced and qualified for the world...
