Fashion: Ladies of Gatsby Photoshoot

The Fashion Shoot Concept An idea thrown out about doing a 1920’s themed Fashion photo shoot to play on the upcoming release of the movie; The Great¬†Gatsby. ¬†The assignment luckily fell into my assignment inbox. I figured why not do it properly and bring in my personal lights and and equipment. The Location Devon House Jamaica though of a different historic background than the 1920’s Gatsby Era. Offered reasonable backgrounds for the old fashioned themes needed for the photo shoot. The Photo Shoot Tools The equipment used was an Alien Bee 800 as key light. A Nikon SB 900 and Nikon SB 28 as kicker lights to accentuate, shape and separate subjects from the backgrounds. Optics used for the most part was the Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8. The other Go to lens was the Nikon 50mm f/1.8. The least used lens was the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. The only reason for that though was wide angles aren’t flattering for portraits or fashion editorials. Here’s a few images from the fashion photo shoot. The Team The Make up wizardry was done by T’Rone Buchanan Styling was done by Natalie Oh! And the Artistic Direction was done by Garfene Grandison Fashion Photography by Taylor G Photography PA – Krysta...

On Assignment: Fashion Shoot at Tuscany Boutique

Last week saturday before I headed off on my first vacation ever I had to drive to Mandeville for a fashion what i thought was a video interview… however it also turned out to be a Fashion photoshoot as a result of my expectation i had no light stand and no umbrella but luckily as always I’ve got my Lumiquest SBIII AND Joby gorilla pod. The Reporter on the assignment assisted as a V.A.T (voice activated lightstand) the resulting images were pretty cool. As Zack Arias always says and proves repeatedly you can do so much with one light and the right attitude. Here’s a setup and result photo though the setup kinda shows you what the result looks like all in...

On Assignment: Flair Magazine the shoe issue

This week it was all about shoes, the assignments were mainly product photography based with the exception of two images (cover page and a supporting image for another kind of look). The Cover Page assignment was late last week thursday in the tiny room they call a studio *rolls eyes* I worked with a 2 light setup using 1 shoot through umbrella and sb900 for key light and an sb 28dx with a on the spot snoot for a directional spot light gelled with red for one shot. and the other gelled yellow and bare bulb. Here are the respective Images, the first being the cover photo and the second being a full page image in the magazine at the end of the shoe feature. Photographer: Gladstone Taylor Creative Director: Garfene Grandison Models: Former Miss Jamaica Kerrie Baylis and Ty’Neil Taitt MUA: Paul March My Favourite image is without a doubt the lady in red. The second one is nice as well, however the light spil on the fabric in the background didn’t sit well with me, had no time to correct though as the photoshoot was done minutes prior to the deadline...

On Assignment: Fashion Shoot for Rumble in Jamrock Featuring Nicholas Axeman Walters

About 3 weeks ago, I was told about an upcoming boxing fight with #1 WBA ranked feather weight, Jamaica’s Nicholas “Axeman” Walters who would be going up against #5 WBA ranked feather weight Daulis Prescott And apparently there was gonna be a fashionshoot with which we could incorporate the boxers as well. My imaginaton went overboard and i actually thought i was gonna get access to a real boxing ring etc. however it was a much more low key production with regards to the props and the set. As always we made the best of what we had, and the end result was awesome :D. I got many phone calls, facebook tags and so on congratulating me on the shoot. The spread was really nice in the Gleaners Flair Magazine, if you only saw it online you didn’t really get to experience it. From the entire image set my favourite image is one of the following 2. (i really cant pick) First we have the enter the ring photo which I found really fitting to tie everything together (lady, fashion + boxer + sport) And then we have the image that was used for the Cover Photo which I really liekd as well, my only gripe is the black bra peeking through Being strapped for time on this assignment may have made me overlook things that I’d usually catch. Why is my favourite photo not one with the jamaican contender you ask.. because it just isn’t the girls really brought it with the other boxer maybe it was his spanish accent (I kid). And lastly here’s a group photo of the models, mua and sportsmax representatives responsible for organising the whole ordeal It was definitely a fun Photoshoot and it was also the first time I gave my Ab800 a test run, it served me well for images of the actually spread in the Flair as well as the Cover layout head on over to my google +...

On Assignment: Cedella Marley’s Fashion at UWI Usain Bolt Track

Hello there again, two blog posts in one day… I know right.. crazy. Anyway this photoshoot was done last week wednesday I believe. lets talk about the Location. The Usain Bolt Track is the training grounds of jamaica legends such as the man the track is named after “the Hon Usain St. Leo Bolt” that aside. the place is not so awesome for a photoshoot at all. the sun was murderous maybe 32 degrees Celsius and the wind gusts were terrible. the wind demolished one of my softbox umbrellas. There was absolutely no shade, the changing room was a pretty solid distance from the track and there was only one model, (the beautiful Shona Bewley who placed third in the Miss Jamaica World 2012 Pageant) so we couldn’t shuttle 1 to change while I shot the other and keep things moving in that order. After trying to shoot the first image with a softbox / umbrella and eventually removing the mangled remains of the umbrella / softbox i figured yea.. lets do this barebulb, its 12pm anyway and mid day sun aint that easy to overpower when your shooting with speedlights, three speedlights.. but speedlights non the less. ganged an sb28, a Yongnuo YN-460 and a sb900 they did pretty good all things being considered. now the next challenge after working out my lighting was were to shoot the model. the place is literally a track big blue circle with white lines dividing it into 8 lanes -_-, after staring at it for a few minutes we came up with a few things which all in all worked out pretty well. here are the images from the shoot. This image while I really liked it couldn’t be used as it didn’t really show the clothes, which was the main purpose of this fashion shoot. Cover Photo for the issue Paul March doing his thing. For a few behind the scenes photos and images of how the spread was done in the paper, head to my google+ page over...
