About two weeks ago I had to cover horse racing at for the first time in 2014. I’m not normally excited about the sport as I have zero interest in gambling what so ever. After shooting horse racing for the first few times it does lose its appeal. I’ve even worked with pocket wizards at the track to spice up the coverage and experience for my self and possibly the paper however that never made the papers as they’re really about that old fashion coverage -_-.. anywhoo.
This time I kept my eye peeled for anything else that I saw that would make an interesting photo; to keep me awake and sane as I counted down the hours to the final race. I saw a few and I liked em so much I decided to share it.
Human Interest
Little Mischief Maker
This little kid amused me. He jumped the fence of the track, he’s walking in a restricted area yet instead of being stealthy he was doing the Jefferson Walk about the place. The image felt better in black and white so, I did the conversion in post, toyed with the levels and monochromatic contrast a bit.
The Old Timer
The fatures of the old man in the middle really caught my attention, literally he was “human interest” for me at least. His missing teeth, his unkept gray.. no white hair and beard and his track sheet clutched in his hand as he watched the horses cross the finish line.
The Rider
This one made me chuckle. Here we have the water truck that is used to wet the track prior to the races, after which a tractor drives by and rakes the track for a clean flat race track for the next race. at the back of the truck is a sign that says no riders, to the right of the sign is infact a rider.

You must have done something at the office for them to punish you with covering a horse race
… Think its good that having being in the situation before you decided to approach the assignment with a different outlook. Thanks for sharing.
