Introducing Mr and Mrs Tavares

May 5, 2011. A saturday, An interesting day it was for me Was photographing a wedding for @icuucme that i worked alongside for a couple years as a web developer @jamaicagleaner. The blessed event was to take place strauncastle “beautiful place btw”. On the assist I had @linkinmchenry on the assist with lighting and shooting backup he didn’t do too bad, but needs more practice on shooting backup n being focus on whats happening. anyway on to the go parts. We arrived on location on time (12:30) and was waaayyyy early lol for “wedding standard” but thats how i wanted it to be so i could go scope out the location and get some ideas for formals I had gone through the facebook page for straun castle and threw some images on my mood board for possible locations already but i figured why not get a first hand look. After rounding that stuff up i proceeded to do some details shots, (confetti bags, favors, bouquets and so on) shortly after that I had to leave the venue which is in stony hill btw and head back to manor park to pick up a 580EXII from @9970000 “seriously tnx dude”. Got to manor park and returned to straun castle in like half an hour n then proceeded to take preparation photos of the bride, groom, and a managed to nail a few of the grooms men formals out the way. At any one point in time my strobist setup was a maximum of two lights to minimize running around from strobe to strobe. after that it was more prep shots of the bride n the parents popping in on the bride the tears, the excitement the works I was there from 12:30 – 10pm it was a long day, was really tired from standing so long and from running around the various locations in straun castle for the formals The image above is one of my fav photos for the...

On Assignment: Jermaine and Keisha Bailey Part Duex

As I had mentioned in the last post , I had a follow up to do with the client. I should have posted this ages ago but the holidays had me supremely busy with work for the Newspaper, Stush as well as My own business. anywho here we go. The location was Morgans harbor yet again Followed by the palisadoes strip ( a little spot that i picked out on the way to morgans harbor that i wanted to use for some twilight imagery with the couple). On this assignment I had some help from Don Giovanni of IMGwire sadly not much help as he had his own business to attend to. I got about an hour of assistance from him which i used to do as much off the off camera stuff I need to do. then after he left I pretty much winged it with 1 speedlight as it was kinda windy and I was afraid of smashing my lights. for the 2 light setups that i did use i went with hard lights to eliminate the wind as a problem. All in all the assignment went smoothly could have been smoother If i had sandbags or an assistant for the entire session but I’ve learnt to not complain and to just make the situation work Here’s a composite of some images from the session,...

On Assignment: Keisha & Jermaine : Wedding

This is actually a few weeks off. Yes shame on me, I have officially entered blogging backlog. better that than post processing back log I always say.anyhoo, This assignment was fun but i was slightly disappointed because of 1 problem. Time Constraint. There wasn’t enough time to make use of all that I had available and man did I have some awesomeness available. Get this. The wedding was at Forte Charles, based on the time constraint I never even made it over to the Giddy house where I once crafted a really nifty image that i intended to pull off and add on some extras to it alas that will have to wait for another day, on ward with this assignment. The bride and groom were getting ready by Morgans harbor, I picked up my back up who was played by Giovanni Powell of IMGwire and drove over to port Royale (damn that place is far) made it in good time. and started the prep shots As usual Men only take so long to get ready so that was over quickly then it was on to the Women, got the make up, hair, details, dress, shoes etc dealt with it all in good time. As soon as they were ready what we did next was a first for me but man was I happy about it. The bride and groom broke the tradition of (no we cant see each other before you see me walking down the isle) they were all about the photography man, The allowed us to do some formals before the wedding Which I was elated for because I knew light would go fast as its November so I’ld much rather nail some formals now and get some great stuff rather than battling it out in the dark and getting some Okay stuff. n we did just that. Morgans harbor had some really nice areas to work with so that was easy. after wrapping there we headed over to forte charles for the wedding and reception. The wedding started when the light was at its finest (yes i was saying in my head man we should sooo be shooting the rest of the formals now) the ceremony went as expected no surprises or difficulties really, I was already aware that I’ld be shooting on camera flash and directional as well cuz I had no ceilings to bounce light off at forte charles. after that was completed we did some formals before the reception in the forte good images but it was so dark that it really was tricky There were a few that were exceptionally awesome...

On Assignment: Kenya & Marlon’s Wedding

What: Wedding Who: Kenya and Marlon When: October 30th, 2010 Where: Uwi Visotors Lodge {nice place but man it was hot) It was a 3pm wedding and we were blessed with good weather (no rain at all). I was at the visitors lodge from approximately 1pm waiting on the bride and bridesmaids to show up for prep photos. Since I was there early I decided to get a few details out the way Gift bags that were grouped to one corner of the room. and some other decor details. The bride showed up at about 1:30 and work was underway. I was working this wedding alone as my backup had another engagement. Made it through the prep and ceremony absolutely fine. I was surprised at one thing that happened that surprised me. The minister requested that i not take any photos during any prayers. I think i’m gonna make an amendment to my contract to deal with that for future clients. now to break out the off softliter, cybersyncs n monopod for off camera lighting. I was wondering if i’ld have to do this alone buuuut luckily @9970000 was able to make it to assist me where i definitely needed the help though (formals, as a voice activated light stand). Got these done in about 45 minutes everything was looking great. wrapped that up and then it was on to the reception. Reception was smooth sailing really. Got some images of the bridal party entering the reception area, The first dance and then chilled while dinner was happening cuz I dont shoot while people eat (makes unflattering photos trust me). after that it was toasts, speeches and lots of fun. I was mainly running and gunning with on camera flash for the reception. the ceiling was pretty low so I was able to angle and bounce for some really nice results. The bride was happy with the images from the little peeks she got off the lcd of my camera. I’m happy with the outcome that i saw while reviewing after the...

To Mobay and back in a day, Oh and i shot a wedding there lol

This is actually from about 2 weeks back July 17, 2010. I had been booked for the wedding about 2 months before by a wedding planner who I had worked with before but on different photographic service (baby shower). We had to negotiate a bit and build a custom package that could suit her client’s needs and budget. The pro’s in the situation was its a small wedding, And i can soooo do this The cons were, Its in montego bay and i live in kingston and do not own a car, Its on a a saturday and I had the photojournalist day job thingy to do, I dont own a car. With the help of a good friend @stewpert who travels between kingston and montego bay regularly I was able to call in a fav for a mobay run for the day, I’ld handle food and gas for him. dude agreed and everything was ready. My backup for the wedding was already booked @9970000 of IMGwire. We left kingston at approximately 7am and were in montego bay by about 11 or 12pm. Got to the location which was beautiful may I add, and scouted for locations to shoot the formals and so on. The wedding was set to begin at 3pm but you know how these things are, left the shoe, left the ring omg my hair etc.. we were about 2 hrs delayed. during that time we nailed some decent preparation images and detail shots. Once the actual ceremony was underway the rest was history, Formals were done in under 30 minutes as it was a small group and I ensured i moved quick before people started getting restless. Here is my favourite image from the bride and groom formals. We went off camera for the formals, kept it smiple though 1 light above and directional, very soft lightsource and the rest was history, think i went as high as 1/2 power at one point the recycle times were bearable though so it all worked out. didn’t even need a lightstand, had @9970000 hand holding the light and that worked out perfectly. I think i left montego bay about 9pm that night.. after grabbing a wendy’s double to stuff my face as I was unable to eat anything substantial all day Wendy’s… yuuuumm :). Oh for the rest of the images please follow through to the...
