One week later post negril I was scheduled to shoot Kevern and Sabrina’s wedding all taking place at the jamaica pegasus. It was a rainy morning but by the time I got to the hotel it all kinda just faded away. here’s the BTS for this wedding and below are some of the photos, Enjoy

Stella Maris Dance Ensemble 2011

Its been two years since I last photographed this dance show, What I can remember is how fun it was to photograph. how much i had to concentrate on not being awed by the art and actually capturing key moments of the performance. The dancers are really talented and the choreographers did an excellent job. This is the first time i’m shooting the show with nikon equipment. as the last time i was shooting with a 30D.

This year i took the d7000, a Giottos monopod and Monfrotto ballhead a total of 20GB of SD storage and a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 VC. Got there at 4:30 PM which was 30 minutes before show time. Found my spot front row dead center and talked a bit with two other photographers that were there until it was show time.

When i began shooting i decided I wanted to go for a lot of motion this time. and not just freeze the frame which is extremely easy now that my High Iso capabilities are really up there with the d7000 in comparison to the 30D where I dared not past 400 or 800 if I”m desperate. it was like i was in a symphony as my fingers rolled the shutter dial and aperture dials where necessary to slow the shutter and compensate for the long exposure with a smaller aperture to induce motion in the frames. I was successful with what I wanted so I moved on to just shooting the show with some freeze frames of the dancers. Here are a few of the photos and the rest can be seen in my portfolio here

I really enjoyed shooting this and I’ll definitely be making some prints from these will probably give one as a gift to a friend of mine that got me into this type of photography.

A week after Christina and Stacey,s shoot. I’m in the studio with shari. Shar has been doing some serious gym training and wanted some photos to show her progress. Of her features I think the beat were her legs her butt and her tummy. I focused on the legs and tummy though. The othe area is for another photoshoot.

This shoot was done in like an hour. And the images were awesome, it was fast it was efficient and it was effective. M it would have been done faster if I didn’t do the first two concepts in jpg and have to reshoot in raw -_-’. barring that little hiccup it was perfect.

Post work there was pretty much non. Other than black and white conversion, sharpening, curves and level adjustments. There was zero retouching, all effects were done in camera as far as I wanted the image to look. I’ll share my favorite photo from this shoot. Shari definitely has a sexy tummy don’t you think?

This photoshoot should have happened almost a year ago, sadly there was always something in The way of me getting the time to shoot Christina.

Months later it’s materializing and before I know it she’s in my studio with a friend of hers who she wanted to come with as she was nervous. I had @linkinmchenry as my assistant for the shoot.

I had used the moodboard app for iPad to layout the different looks we were going for and strobox to produce my lighting diagrams so the shoot went like clock work.

Creativity started kicking in as the shoot went on n I came up with my original concepts on spot. The big thing about them were it was all natural light which is kind of not my style but I have been doing it alot lately and loving the results.

We were in the studio for a couple hours and made some amazing images I’m gonna post a few of my favorites, they’re already on my @500px account if you wanna just jump there.

On Assignment: Fashion shoot at Signatures

To my delight today (8/12/2010) I was assigned a fashion shoot at a wonderful store called Signatures I honestly nvr knew it existed and for good reason its female clothes, however on the flip side the store is soooo amazing and the Staff are really hospitable definitely an awesome place if i had a girlfriend and my pockets were deep till they were on the floor I’ld so shop there. onward to the juicey parts.

Heading to this fashion shoot I was actually miserable, because i didn’t have my lightstands nor did i have my softbox or softbox umbrella or softliter (hmm modifiers would have covered all of that) anyway. I had 2 flashes a camera and 2 lens. as i walked in the store i started banging my head against an imaginary wall because the store looked so awesome this would have been ideal for me to have my lighting gear 100% operational but alas the milk is spilt and I have no mop so now I decided to work around it. i had my lumiquest mini softbox which i did use to slightly widen my lightsource (i would love an ltp for christmas if santa’s reading). That light was being held by the reporter I was assigned to the shoot with. She was really helpful the second light i used for fill to kinda bring out those harsh shadows the key light would create. and in some cases i used it for rim lights. did a bit of blending of natural light that was coming in through a window (i’m telling u this store was made for a photoshoot) overall I was happy I still would much rather be fully equipped but it was cool winging it and getting such awesome results. here’s an image from the shoot. the model isn’t a professional but she either lives in em vogue mags or probably really has a natural talent there. either way she rocked it.

*nb* Yes that is the strobe in the photo I’m aware it was there. There were other images with it not included (this is an out take)

Introducing Mr and Mrs Tavares

May 5, 2011. A saturday, An interesting day it was for me Was photographing a wedding for @icuucme that i worked alongside for a couple years as a web developer @jamaicagleaner. The blessed event was to take place strauncastle “beautiful place btw”. On the assist I had @linkinmchenry on the assist with lighting and shooting backup he didn’t do too bad, but needs more practice on shooting backup n being focus on whats happening. anyway on to the go parts.

We arrived on location on time (12:30) and was waaayyyy early lol for “wedding standard” but thats how i wanted it to be so i could go scope out the location and get some ideas for formals I had gone through the facebook page for straun castle and threw some images on my mood board for possible locations already but i figured why not get a first hand look. After rounding that stuff up i proceeded to do some details shots, (confetti bags, favors, bouquets and so on) shortly after that I had to leave the venue which is in stony hill btw and head back to manor park to pick up a 580EXII from @9970000 “seriously tnx dude”.

Got to manor park and returned to straun castle in like half an hour n then proceeded to take preparation photos of the bride, groom, and a managed to nail a few of the grooms men formals out the way. At any one point in time my strobist setup was a maximum of two lights to minimize running around from strobe to strobe. after that it was more prep shots of the bride n the parents popping in on the bride the tears, the excitement the works

I was there from 12:30 – 10pm it was a long day, was really tired from standing so long and from running around the various locations in straun castle for the formals The image above is one of my fav photos for the day.

On assignment: flair magazine cover photo

Early last week I had an assignment to photograph a lovely lady for the cover of the flair magazine. The location was an office setting which thou small I absolutely loved. The problem is the subject wasn’t dressed in cover photo wear so to speak. So I did the images I wanted to do just invade a reshoot wasn’t possible before the deadline later in the week. If was luckily able to re-shoot the subject the following day though, however this time I had to do it at the gleaner company and that day not many locations were at my disposal. Eventually i was able to get a board meeting room to use for 15 minutes which was more than enough time to do what i had in my head was a one lit image. Hd the subject kinda leaove a chair, Filled the frame with the subject, she got her game face on, 1 light cam left 1/4 pwr and presto. To put it out there i couldn’t have done it so easily had the subject Mrs Thompson not been so easy to photograph all in all a good days work in good time . Which kinda led me to my next assignment.

Oh one key thing i kind of left out is, on the first shoot in the office location, on getting there my cybersync trigger battery was completely zapped. of course its not standard batteries so i ended up using the sb900 in su4 mode stopped the flash exposure in camera down to -1 to compensate from the on camera flash that’ll be triggering the sb900 the results from those are what was actually used for the feature. see image number 2 in the image slider.

On assignment: Flair magazine fashion photo shoot with D’angel

Sloop shortly after tha cover shoot I had to run scarf some food and drive up to my next assignment, all I knew is i was shooting some fashion, not who nor where, in transit to the assignment the reporter made me aware I
Would be photographing Michelle Downer, lovingly and popularly know as D’angel. I wasn’t really nervous because I had photographed her before aaggges ago anyway that shoot sucked as I sucked a lot more then than i do now. I wanted to make a statement with these images as best as I could with the limited time i would probably have with the artiste as I had previously learned on a photoshoot with bet 106 and parks host, Roxie .
Luckily time wasn’t a big issue for reason i cant explain as i have signed a non disclosure agreement. Anywhoo there where 8 looks total and I had the ability to use anywhere I wanted to at the location. Mostly I had a 1 light setup as i didn’t take much with me cause i didn’t now who i was photographing but I did make the best of it. I used the sb900 in su4 as my kicker light in a few shots that i wanted that effect here’s my favorite image from the set. My reason for liking this image is the Contrast in theme A juxtaposition of her attire and location. enjoy and see the rest of the images and article in the Flair Magazine Online

On Assignment: Keisha & Jermaine : Wedding

This is actually a few weeks off. Yes shame on me, I have officially entered blogging backlog. better that than post processing back log I always say.anyhoo, This assignment was fun but i was slightly disappointed because of 1 problem. Time Constraint. There wasn’t enough time to make use of all that I had available and man did I have some awesomeness available. Get this. The wedding was at Forte Charles, based on the time constraint I never even made it over to the Giddy house where I once crafted a really nifty image that i intended to pull off and add on some extras to it alas that will have to wait for another day, on ward with this assignment.

The bride and groom were getting ready by Morgans harbor, I picked up my back up who was played by Giovanni Powell of IMGwire and drove over to port Royale (damn that place is far) made it in good time. and started the prep shots As usual Men only take so long to get ready so that was over quickly then it was on to the Women, got the make up, hair, details, dress, shoes etc dealt with it all in good time. As soon as they were ready what we did next was a first for me but man was I happy about it. The bride and groom broke the tradition of (no we cant see each other before you see me walking down the isle) they were all about the photography man, The allowed us to do some formals before the wedding Which I was elated for because I knew light would go fast as its November so I’ld much rather nail some formals now and get some great stuff rather than battling it out in the dark and getting some Okay stuff. n we did just that. Morgans harbor had some really nice areas to work with so that was easy. after wrapping there we headed over to forte charles for the wedding and reception.

The wedding started when the light was at its finest (yes i was saying in my head man we should sooo be shooting the rest of the formals now) the ceremony went as expected no surprises or difficulties really, I was already aware that I’ld be shooting on camera flash and directional as well cuz I had no ceilings to bounce light off at forte charles. after that was completed we did some formals before the reception in the forte good images but it was so dark that it really was tricky There were a few that were exceptionally awesome though.

now I delivered the images days after. and everyone was happy but then they said three words that made me happier than them. and that you’ll have to stay tuned for.. ok ok I’ll spill what it is. TRASH THE DRESS!!!
