Its been over half a year since I did anything with the jwi flickr group, but this particular meetup was definitely up my alley. Photographer Brian Rosen held an informal class on the subject of glamor photography. Where he went through punctuality, best practices and also lighting equipment and modifiers. The meetup took place at hope gardens on hope road A very nice environment for portraits and glamor photography if you ask me.

After the theory and info session was over the members present were allowed to take turns shooting the model present. Lights and triggers were provided by Brian R, and everyone had their own Camera’s.

I was mainly there for the info, and to hear someone as experienced and Rosen and Franz speak, It was worth the time and effort to go. I didn’t do any strobist work that day though, I sought out good ambient light and shot it when i could. Hope you like the image I posted from the meetup.

p.s The jwi flickr group is a pretty interesting group If your just starting out in photography you may be able to learn a thing or two from going out on their monthly outings and meet a few contacts in the field which you may be able to work closely with and learn as a result.

A couple weeks back @vampnixen and I did went for a fashion shoot theme. The make up was done by @vampnixen and the imagry by yours truely as there was nobody else on set anyway. Anyway there were 2 lights. Sb 26 fired via its built in optical slave and an sb 28dx which was triggered via cactus / gadget infinity radio triggers which I got from @MarcGrandmaison. The shoot went well The makeup was well done, the retouching was kept basic and realistic. Lemme know what you thinks.

Hey everybody The post is kinda late however on the night of march the 2nd 2009 which so happens to be a monday, I had a portrait session in my not so new anymore makeshift studio. My model was a beautiful young lady by the name of Nickel, Whom I enjoyed working with so much. She understood the aim of the session. “Me Trying to Suck Less than I usually do”. I wont reveal the amount of frames that I shot or how long it took me to get keepers. But I did get it eventually. Working with one light with a shoot through umbrella as my ownly modifier was kinda tricky at first but eventually I started to get a few things going. Here are two images from the session.

Difficulties faced during that session were

I suck

lack of space

Lacking Artistic Direction – expressions, poses

I over came number one if even by just a single digit percentage value. The space Nothing can be done about that at the moment. and the artistic direction I’m still weak on it, but I’ll continue to shoot till I over come it.
I should be shooting her in a few days time. I’ll try my best to plan more and hopefully my next strobe will be here by then.
