On Assignment: Cedella Marley’s Fashion at UWI Usain Bolt Track

Hello there again, two blog posts in one day… I know right.. crazy. Anyway this photoshoot was done last week wednesday I believe. lets talk about the Location. The Usain Bolt Track is the training grounds of jamaica legends such as the man the track is named after “the Hon Usain St. Leo Bolt” that aside. the place is not so awesome for a photoshoot at all. the sun was murderous maybe 32 degrees Celsius and the wind gusts were terrible. the wind demolished one of my softbox umbrellas. There was absolutely no shade, the changing room was a pretty solid distance from the track and there was only one model, (the beautiful Shona Bewley who placed third in the Miss Jamaica World 2012 Pageant) so we couldn’t shuttle 1 to change while I shot the other and keep things moving in that order. After trying to shoot the first image with a softbox / umbrella and eventually removing the mangled remains of the umbrella / softbox i figured yea.. lets do this barebulb, its 12pm anyway and mid day sun aint that easy to overpower when your shooting with speedlights, three speedlights.. but speedlights non the less. ganged an sb28, a Yongnuo YN-460 and a sb900 they did pretty good all things being considered. now the next challenge after working out my lighting was were to shoot the model. the place is literally a track big blue circle with white lines dividing it into 8 lanes -_-, after staring at it for a few minutes we came up with a few things which all in all worked out pretty well. here are the images from the shoot. This image while I really liked it couldn’t be used as it didn’t really show the clothes, which was the main purpose of this fashion shoot. Cover Photo for the issue Paul March doing his thing. For a few behind the scenes photos and images of how the spread was done in the paper, head to my google+ page over...

On Assignment: Fashion Photoshoot at Ignite

Typically I’d have pre blogged this and then publish on the day the paper was published which was last week monday but I’ve been super busy lately. worked 2 weeks straight without a day off or break. and then on the three day weekend break I had private jobs on each day so there was no resting. I’m basically saying apologies for the delays -_-. I worked with ignite a few weeks ago doing a male spread featuring colourful and fashionable piece clothing. this shoot was the follow up, which was basically the female version of the same concept. there were two gorgeous models and about 3 looks each. Make up wizardry was done by the infamous Paul March. The biggest challenge with the location which was the store located at village plaza beside my fav. coffee house in kingston “rituals” :)… um where was I.. Challenge; right. the challenge was reflections.. there were mirrors every where I think theres an image that i couldn’t do anything about it so there’s my umbrella soft-box staring you right in the face -___- * embarrassing*. With the exception of the reflections though and figuring out the best angle to light from for good looking light as well as no reflection of the light source it was a typical run of the mill photo-shoot. here are 3 photos from the fashion photo-shoot. I was really feeling this sexy librarian / teacher look for this image. This was the only image with both of em, it wasn’t used in the center spread though. I liked that i got some reflection fromt his last shot. and there you have it ladies and gentlemen i didn’t delve into flash power and lighting ratios because this was about a week ago and while i still remember to some extent i honestly dont think its really that important for this shoot, as i said it was pretty run of the mill. I saw the owner of ignite on friday after finishing up a private job for a client (was heading to rituals to have coffee and process). She absolutely loved the outcome of the shoot, so all in all everyone was happy. For the behind the scenes photos from the shoot and some snapshots of the center spread from the flair magazine checkout my google+ profile...

On assignment: Flair magazine fashion photo shoot with D’angel

shortly after tha cover shoot I had to run scarf some food and drive up to my next assignment, all I knew is i was shooting some fashion, not who nor where, in transit to the assignment the reporter made me aware I Would be photographing Michelle Downer, lovingly and popularly know as D’angel. I wasn’t really nervous because I had photographed her before aaggges ago anyway that shoot sucked as I sucked a lot more then than i do now. I wanted to make a statement with these images as best as I could with the limited time i would probably have with the artiste as I had previously learned on a photoshoot with bet 106 and parks host, Roxie :(. Luckily time wasn’t a big issue for reason i cant explain as i have signed a non disclosure agreement. Anywhoo there where 8 looks total and I had the ability to use anywhere I wanted to at the location. Mostly I had a 1 light setup as i didn’t take much with me cause i didn’t now who i was photographing but I did make the best of it. I used the sb900 in su4 as my kicker light in a few shots that i wanted that effect here’s my favorite image from the set. My reason for liking this image is the Contrast in theme A juxtaposition of her attire and location. enjoy and see the rest of the images and article in the Flair Magazine...

on assignment: Chain Reaction fashion accessories photo shoot

Today, I decided, I’m taking 2 light stands 2 speed lights a beauty dish and a brolly, wont get caught without that modifier this time around if i got em all right. The assignment was a jewellery Fashion accessories photo shoot at Chain Reaction [ their stuff is pretty awesome, i’ll be visiting next week to go shopping ]. The model model was actually one of the co-owners daughters. She did pretty well. mostly I worked with a two light setup using the dish and the umbrella as modifiers. for my favorite shot though which i just came up with on a whim (did it more for me than for them to tell the truth), i used one light on the subject modified with the shoot through umbrella at 1/4 power at camera right and the second speedlight bare powered down to 16th power and used it to throw some light at an orange wall behind the subject for some separation color...
