Caribbean Fashion Week 2010

Caribbean Fashion Week 2010, The 10th anniversary edition was definitely different. The main flag for me was black background and black runway combined with terrible lighting it wasn’t the easiest fashion show to shoot. there were flares everywhere but i think i made the best of it.

In terms of equipment I had a gripped 30D with a 85mm f1.8 on a giottos monopod. the 1.8 aperture came in handy the 85mm was enough reach the main problem was horrid lighting from Intec (a local lighting company here in Jamaica).

There were shadows cast on the run way, so at points you could see the model’s walking from harsh light directly into shadows, So it became a matter of shooting at the right points.

From reviewing the images, Friday’s image sucked in terms of my standards. They’re usable but the photographers eye syndrome kicks in and I know i’m capable of better output. The light flare’s were unacceptable though. Luckily saturday and sunday’s light were addressed and though not perfect I was able to milk it for what its worthy and got some great images for saturday and sunday’s presentations. On may the first I was reminded of a very important lesson. That is. With all my assignments that I may get and will get. It is very important to ensure I meet with the client and understand exactly what is required. While I thought the assignment was strictly sports related it was not. It involved a lot of lifestyle photography, showing the patrons and athletes in their elements, it was a fun experience as all assignments should be , I enjoyed it thoroughly. In terms of gear I was shooting the 30D and lens artillery consisted of the, 70-200mm f/2.8L, 28-75mm f/2.8 and a 85mm f/1.8. Sadly I’m unable to publish any of the images as of yet. So till that happens I guess your stuck with my old mug. Look for a themed concept I’m working on with @vampnixen just a matter of getting the right model for each role. It’ll be fun. More to come on that.

The first Wedding I shot for 2010

Hey everyone. I did my first wedding of the year about 11 days ago, april the 10th 2010 to be exact. As usual it was a beautiful day as I always manage to see the beauty in every bride’s special day. Unlike my usual coverage This wedding was picked up from the wedding ceremony instead of from the hotel at preparation stages. The coverage continued through to formals after the ceremony then the reception. Everything moved like clock work, There was no huge delays or problems what so ever. And thank god I didn’t suffer any gear failure. I Event did some off camera lighting for the formals Which I was a bit hesitant about at first but all in all I’m Glad I stuck with the idea and was brave enough to attempt it. Rjr 2009 sportman & sportswoman of the year

One of my projects from january 2010. For this particular event I was shooting backup for an agency “IMGwire”. The lead photographer, and ceo of IMGwire “giovanni powell” had sent video and still images of the venue via blackberry to me from midday of the 14th of january.

This gave me an idea of seating arrangements. Lighting arrangements and where may be in accessible or where ild want to be to get my required images. Based on the lighting conditions it was clear that I needed my glass to be f2/8 or faster. So I took the 50mm F1.8 and 28 – 75mm f2/8 which severd quit well. The camera bodies used for this assignment was the eos 30d and IMGwires eos 1D MKIII.

The images from the event came out pretty good. as a preview, in the image to the left we have the sportswoman of 2009 Bridget Foster, The rest of the images are available in my portfolio for viewing go check em out.

Hey, everyone, I’m still alive and well, and still shooting Nothing much to post as I haven’t shot much personal projects or muc portriats recently. There’s been a small wave of Event Photography and photo sessions from which I cannot share as i dont have the rights to the image. I’ll leave you with some thumbs from sting which i did on December the 26th 2009

on the business side of things I’ve been doing alot of thinking and have some ideas for change for my photography business.

Change interms of Equipment, Business Practices and ethics as well as What I Primarily shoot.

On another note I have an interview with a newspaper company tomorrow. Contemplating shooting for the paper now if its a Viable option for an extra income while doing some I love and enjoy.

Other benefits would be lots of exposure to different kind of events. and just becoming experienced and seasoned in location based photography as typically photojournalist Have to go shoot something or someone instead of it coming to them right.
